How to See All Participants in Google Meet in 2026: Switch Layouts and View Everyone During Presentations

If you can only see a few people during a Google Meet call, it's not your imagination—it's your layout settings. This guide walks you through the simplest steps to find all participants on both desktop and mobile, and explains how to keep everyone visible while presenting, so you never miss a face during meetings or interactive sessions.

During a meeting, you see "the person who is speaking," but there are actually a dozen people in the room.

This feeling is common.

Especially when you're presenting, the screen is filled with your slides, and you can barely see any participants' expressions.

So you start to wonder: Did someone drop off? Is Google Meet glitching?

But most of the time, the issue isn't Google Meet—it's that your layout hasn't been adjusted.

Google Meet's default layout prioritizes enlarging the speaker or the shared screen.

It's trying to help you focus, but it ends up hiding the big picture.

So in this article, I'll show you the most direct way to bring "all participants" back onto your screen.

Let's start with the desktop version.

First, Understand: Google Meet's "Layout" Is the Key

Google Meet isn't failing to show everyone—it's using its "layout settings" to decide who gets enlarged and who gets tucked away.

What you see is actually the result of the system's choices for you.

So, to see all participants, the first step isn't to open the participant list—it's to "change your layout."

Many people check the participant list on the right to confirm who's there, but that list only tells you "who's in the meeting"; it can't display everyone's video at once.

If you just need to confirm who's present, the list is enough.

But if you want to "see everyone's video simultaneously," you must adjust the layout.

Desktop: Switch to Grid View to Show Everyone at Once

When you're in a Google Meet call, look at the bottom-right corner of your window.

There's a "More options" button with an icon of three vertical dots.

Click it, and a menu will appear.

Then select "Change layout."

Once you're in the layout settings, you'll see several modes.

The most straightforward one is "Grid."

After selecting Grid, Google Meet will try to fit as many participants as possible onto your screen.

(Screenshot placeholder: In the change layout menu, an arrow points to the grid view option)

Google Meet offers different grid sizes—for example, in grid view, you can see 6, 16, or even 49 participants.

The number you choose depends on your computer's performance and browser window size.

If your computer's processor is average, Google Meet might limit how many videos it displays at once.

In that case, even selecting the largest grid might not show everyone at once.

But for most small to medium meetings, this method is sufficient.

Can't See Everyone During a Presentation? That's a Different Setting

The most frustrating scenario is usually "I'm sharing my slides, and I can't see the people in the audience."

You think everyone vanished, but really, the layout just reverted to prioritizing the shared content.

When someone shares their screen, Google Meet automatically focuses on the shared content.

If you want to see participants' reactions while presenting, you'll need to adjust the layout again.

Again, click the three-dot menu in the bottom-right corner and go to "Change layout."

Stop organizing recordings by hand

Upload audio or video and automatically get a transcript, summary, and action items

In the layout options, choose a mode that shows both the presentation and participants simultaneously.

Some versions offer grid or side-by-side arrangements, allowing the slides and participant thumbnails to coexist.

(Screenshot placeholder: After switching layout during a presentation, the left side shows the slides, and the right side shows participant thumbnails)

This way, you can explain while observing everyone's expressions.

This is especially important for instructors, hosts, or anyone who needs real-time interaction.

Mobile: iPad and Phone Logic Differs Slightly

If you're using an iPad, things are much simpler.

In newer versions, Google has made grid view the default layout on iPad.

That means when someone joins the meeting, their video automatically appears in the grid—no extra taps needed.

This saves a lot of steps for those using iPads for classes or meetings.

If you're on a phone, screen space is limited, and Google Meet typically shows only a few people's videos.

On your phone, you can try tapping the screen to see if there's a layout-switching option.

But the number of people a phone can display at once is ultimately constrained by screen size.

So for large meetings, I'd still recommend using a computer or iPad.

When You Can't See Everyone, Check These Three Things First

Often, not seeing all participants comes down to three reasons.

First, you haven't switched to grid view.

The default layout prioritizes enlarging the speaker, so others might seem to disappear.

Second, your browser window is too small.

Google Meet decides how many participant videos to show based on your window size.

Enlarging the window or going fullscreen often brings more people into view.

Third, your computer's performance limits the number of videos displayed.

This isn't a Google Meet error—it's an adjustment to avoid lag.

If this happens, try closing unnecessary browser tabs or software.

My Advice: Set It Up Before the Meeting, Not During

Instead of hunting for layout settings every time, build a small habit.

At the start of a meeting, take ten seconds to switch to your preferred layout.

If you're the host, you should definitely set it up before starting your presentation.

Because during the meeting, it's hard to juggle both your presentation pace and layout issues.

Especially when you're sharing important content and suddenly realize you can't see the audience—that panic can easily disrupt your flow.

Set your layout first, and you can focus on what really matters: the discussion and interaction.

Google Meet's layout settings are like a "pre-meeting ritual."

Once you get the hang of it, it takes little time but greatly improves your sense of control over the entire meeting.

Quick-Start Checklist

  1. Open your Google Meet meeting.
  2. Click the "three dots" icon in the bottom-right corner.
  3. Select "Change layout."
  4. Choose "Grid" or another layout that shows multiple people at once.
  5. If you can't see participants during a presentation, go back to layout settings and switch again.
  6. On iPad, grid view is usually the default, so no extra setup is needed.

Test these steps a few times, and you'll gradually build your own preferred meeting layout.
